Más Is More
“Less is more?”
No me digas eso.
We are the color, the flavor, the sound,
and we will not dim ourselves down.
We stand grounded yet radiant,
firm in our roots,
shining in our truth.
We take up space,
wearing our colors proudly
from generations prior
and for generations to come.
We don’t hold back; we overflow.
Our hearts spill like pitchers of agua fresca,
filling every glass within reach.
It’s the way we give and keep giving,
love ladled out with open hands,
a devotion too generous to contain.
And still, in a society immersed in our love and laughter,
I am told to stay silent.
Calladita no me veo más bonita.
They said, “A woman is prettier with her mouth shut.”
Qué mentira.
Mira qué linda cuando habla,
when her truth stands firm,
prevalent and assertive,
filling the room with certainty.
My voice is my inheritance,
and my expression is devotion.
I am happiest when I am myself
when I love and live as Meximalismo.
We speak with our whole bodies.
Dancing in denim and lace,
singing through soft defiance and joy.
We are faithful and devout,
loving with every breath,
every layer and gesture of affection.
Feeling deeply is not a weakness,
it's the heart’s most radiant strength.
They call us too much,
but we simply love more
más fuerte, más libre, más profundo.
A love that does not hide,
does not flinch,
does not apologize for its fire.
Those who cannot hold that light
were never taught to cherish it.
We were not born in the wrong culture,
nor the wrong place.
We are exactly where we’re meant to be,
together beneath the sun that paints our skin.
The world just fears color,
but color makes us rich,
and it runs deep.
We are maximalistas
The echo of a thousand stories told at once.
We exist in abundance
loud and proud,
full of love and dedication so deep
it spills from our kitchens, our music, our hearts.
Infinite, and unapologetically más.
Because the lives before us did not cross oceans and deserts for less.
We are the memory and the miracle,
the continuation of their courage,
too bold to quiet,
too alive to contain.
Con más, vivimos y mientras más, mejor.
